John Lewis

John Lewis was born about 1838 in Illinois (either Jackson or Union County). He is the son of Levi and Charlotte "Lottie" (Oxford) Lewis. He was the oldest of nine children.

In the 1850 Census he is a 12 year old boy living with his family in District 2, Union County, Illinois.

In 1856 he is NOT listed as an heir in Levi Lewis's Probates Records.

In the 1870 Census I believe he can be found living in the city of Jonesboro, Union County, Illinois. It list him as a 29 year old farmer. It is a possibility that this might NOT be him.

He might have a son, Absalom Lewis, who is living with his grandmother Lewis in the 1880 census.

I believe he died before the 1900 Census. His mother states that she gave birth to 9 children and 4 are stilling living. When I count up who I know is still living, it leads to John already passing away.
