Levi "Lee" Lewis

Levi "Lee" Lewis was born Feb 2, 1885 probably in Union County, Illinois. His parents were William and Jennie (Wilson) Lewis.

In the 1900 Census he is living with his family in Lick Creek, Union County, Illinois.

In the 1910 Census he is still with his family and living in Anna, Union County, Illinois.

In the 1920 Census he is living with his wife and children in Dongola, Union County, Illinois.

His niece, Rene Little, remembered that he married Ellen. She remembers that Ellen had Native American facial features. They had several children.

Malvin spent time in Omaha and later in Mursphyboro when wife died

Bill and others lived in Union County, probably some buried in Casper

She remembers hearing from cousin Alberta that her parents had been living in Herrin when they passed away. The surviving spouse did not remarry.

October 8, 1912 a Levi Lewis married Ellen Peeler in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Obituary in the Jonesboro Gazette:

15 Jun 1923

Ester Jewell Treece, aged 2 years, and Howard Earl Lewis, aged 2 1/2 years, were struck by a freight train near Balcom and killed Saturday ( 9 June 1923). She is the daughter of Walter Treece. He is the son of Levi Lewis There was a coroner's inquest.


Ellen might have died on Dec 31, 1955.

Lee might have died on July 21, 1957. His niece believed that he was buried in Casper Cemetery, however I have not been able to find him there.

Need to gather more documents to put the whole picture together for this family.
