Samuel Lewis

Samuel Lewis was born about 1843 in either Illinois or Missouri. He is the son of Levi and Charlotte "Lotti" Lewis.

In the 1850 Census he is 7 years old and living with his family in District 2, Union County, Illinois.

He is listed as an heir in his father's 1856 Probate Record.

In the 1860 Census he is living with his family in Township 12, Union County, Illinois.

In the 1870 Census he is living with his family in Stokes, Union County, Illinois. It states that he is a farmer.

On March 1, 1877 he marries Eudora Modglin in Union County, Illinois.

In the 1880 Census he is living with his wife and baby daughter in Stokes, Union County, Illinois. They live just down from his mother and nephew. He is working as an laborer.

In 1900 he is living back with mother in Saratoga, Union County, Illinois. It states that he is widowed. I believe both his wife and daughter pasted away in the last 10 years. He is working the farm that he owns.

In the 1910 Census he is living in Stokes, Union County, Illinois and continues to farm. He is 67 years old.

This is where I lose the trail. I suspect that he stayed in the same area until his older years or death. When over at genealogytrails.com I found a Samuel Lewis buried in Good Hope Cemetery. He died on September 13, 1914. This cemetery is in an unknown location.

Questions/ More Research

1. Research burial for both his wife and daughter.

2. Is he the Samuel Lewis buried in Good Hope Cemetery?
