Samuel Yates was the son of Etha Inda and Benjamin Franklin Yates. He was born on February 23, 1871 in Pope County, Illinois.
In the 1880 Census he is living with his family in Eddyville, Pope County, Illinois.
On July 28, 1894 he married Cora E. Leverett* in Pope County, Illinois.

According to Census Reports Samuel and his family continued to live in Pope County. His occupation was farmer.

* Cora E Leverett was born on July 4, 1877 and died on July 24, 1946 according to her gravestone. My aunt noted that family lore says that "Corie" was of mixed nationalities.
