Obituary - Sarah Della Dunn

It is probably true that there never has been a life lived in this world that when they were called out of this life someone stood to weep, someone stood to mourn. We are writing on the pages of time, in our daily living, that obituary of life that will never die in the hearts and memories of friends and loved ones with whom we have made the contact of life.

Sarah Della Dunn was born in Pope County, Ill., February 28, 1876, the daughter of Benjamin and Etha Yates. She died June 17, 1947, at 12:30 P.M. at her home in Dorris Heights, Harrisburg, Ill., at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 20 days.

When she was 18 years old she was united in marriage to James Jacobs. To this union there were born nine children. Three, Gordon Jacobs, Ivey Ney and Nora Jacobs have preceded her in death.

She  was married to Robert Dunn of Harrisburg in 1937. Besides her husband, six daughters remain to mourn her passing: Beatrice Hoffner of Peoria, Ill., Belle Stapleton of Simpson, Dorcie Barger of Eddyville,  Rose Jones of Decatur, Laura Robertson of Harrisburg and Jean Hardy of Decatur; also two brothers, Aaron Yates of Springfield and Roscoe Yates of Golconda and 3 sisters Melissa Goot of Anna, Georgia Carr and Viola Walker of Kankakee. There were also 25 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren who mourn her passing.

Mrs. Dunn was a member of the Carrier Mills First Methodist Church. To the very last she expressed her faith in Christ and held no fears as she went out to meet her God.

So I looked up to God,
And while I held my breath
I saw him slowly nod,
And knew -- as I had never known aught else,
With certainly sublime and passionate,
Shot through and through,
With sheer unutterable bliss,
I knew
There was no death but this
 God's kiss,
And then the waking to an Everlasting Love.
